VNA of Rhode Island Co-Hosts Radio Show
VNA/RI uses Talk Radio to advance their health care mission

Did you know that the VNA of Rhode Island (Lincoln, RI) co-hosts a weekly hour-long radio call-in show called “Life Matters”? The weekly radio show is even broadcast over the Internet, giving the VNA a powerful marketing channel and providing their patients with an enjoyable and unique way to stay plugged into VNA services.

The show, a joint venture between Prime Time Magazine (A Senior Living Publication) and VNA of Rhode Island, airs each Thursday at 2 pm on WNRI 1380 AM and on the internet at www.wnri.com. John Moran, the Marketing Manager at VNA of Rhode Island and Rolf Hogfeldt, the Marketing Director at Prime Time Magazine, are the co-hosts of the show. Each week they interview a special guest on a wide array of topics, from informative health care issues to fun and interesting leisure time activities.

The show grew out of a single interview, when Moran quickly realized the potential value for his VNA. In the fall of 2002, when VNA/RI was running regional flu clinics, the Prime Time Magazine for Seniors helped publicize the clinics and booked Moran for several shows as a guest to discuss the clinics. The following March, Moran and Hogfeldt met with a local radio station about doing their own radio show and the station loved the idea. The show has aired weekly on WNRI since March ‘03. Some of the topics that the show has tackled include prescription drug pricing, senior Olympics, choosing a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation in the home, home hospice care, golf and retired senior volunteer programs. The weekly call-in radio show has been very successful for the VNA of Rhode Island.

The VNA of Rhode Island was established in 1900 and is the oldest and largest visiting nurse association in the state of Rhode Island. Under the direction of President and CEO Mary Linn Hamilton the mission of the organization is to prevent illness, promote and protect health and provide care for the sick, disabled and dying. VNA of Rhode Island has been a member of the VNAA since 1999.

Every month, we will shine the spotlight on a member VNA, and tell you about an innovative program they run. Do you have a story you would like to see in the VNAA “Agency Spotlight”? If so send your suggestions to [email protected].
