VNAA Honors Nation’s Finest Home Health Caregivers



VNAA announced the recipients of its annual homecare awards at the group’s 24th Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. These awards recognize the achievements of home healthcare professionals throughout the nation’s 415+ Visiting Nurse Agencies, who are collectively the nation’s largest non-profit provider of home healthcare services.

Award Recipients

Dick Anderton Mentor of the Year was awarded to Mary Ann Blade, CEO of Minnesota VNA, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The highest honor that the VNAA bestows, this award recognizes outstanding contributions of an individual to the national VNA movement, as demonstrated through active leadership and participation in VNAA and mentoring VNA colleagues and staff.

Program Manager of the Year was awarded to Brenda Bartock, Manager of Intake & Home Care Coordination at VNS of Rochester & Monroe County, in Rochester, NY.  This award recognizes contributions by a home health program manager that significantly improved their agency and its ability to serve its community.
Administrative Manager of the Year was awarded to two individuals this year:

Amy Purple, the Hospice Director at Hackley VNS & Hospice, Muskegon, Michigan
This award recognizes contributions by a home health program manager in administrative functions rather than clinical areas.   It recognizes outstanding VNA managers that have made major contributions to the mission of their VNA through management or other key business functions.

Bridget Young, VP of Quality & Accreditation VNA of the Midlands, Omaha, Nebraska.
This award recognizes contributions by a home health program manager in administrative functions rather than clinical areas.   It recognizes outstanding VNA managers that have made major contributions to the mission of their VNA through management or other key business functions.

Clinician of the Year was awarded to Kim Peters, RN, CWS, of Home Health VNA in Lawrence, Massachusetts. This award recognizes a clinician for outstanding contributions to his/her field, and increasing awareness of homecare and VNA services.


Legislator of the Year was awarded to US Representative Mike Ferguson (R-NJ), for his leadership in Congress last year in supporting the mission of Visiting Nurse Agencies (VNAs). The announcement comes as leaders in the home health nursing profession meet in Orlando for VNAA’s 24th Annual Meeting & Exhibition.

Volunteer of the Year – Agency Board Member was awarded to Shepard Remis, Chairman of the Board of VNA of Boston, in Charlestown, Massachusetts.  VNAA recognizes a board member who best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism, and willingness to “go the extra mile.”
