Case Mix Creep
Urge Congress to stop the so-called "case mix creep" payment cuts and protect home healthcare by supporting the Medicare Home Health Access Protection Act (S. 2181/H.R. 3865). This bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Senator Robert Casey, Jr. (D-PA) and in the House by Representative James McGovern (D-MA) and Representative Walter Jones (R-NC). This legislation would prevent CMS from cutting home health payments by 2.75% in 2009, 2.75% in 2010, and by 2.71% in 2011. It would also require the Department of Health and Human Services to conduct a new study on changes in case-mix coding that would be more transparent and comprehensive, involving an outside Technical Advisory Panel.
