VNAA Educational Calendar

VNAA's education calendar includes up-to-date industry teleconferences/Webinars, which provide convenience for member participation by eliminating the need for travel while still maintaining VNAA's high standard of educational excellence. In addition free educational content for members, VNAA is also offers the VNAA Professional Lecture Series (PLS).

(FREE) - means there is no cost associated with participating
(Members-Only) - means only VNAA members can attend

Professional Lecture Series (PLS)

VNAA hopes stimulate the exchange of ideas and enrich participants intellectually to improve the quality of home health and hospice care leading to improved outcomes. Registration for each PLS costs $75.00 per conference line for members and $150.00 for nonmembers. Each registered conference line allows for an unlimited number of attendees to call in using the same phone line. If interested CNE certificates are available for $15/person. Upcoming Programs in the VNAA's Professional Lecture Series

  • Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 2 – 3:15 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. PDT): Susan Luck presenting Integrating Holistic Modalities in Pain Management. This session explores up to date on holistic therapy approaches in pain management for home health and hospice patients.
  • Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 2 – 3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Sue Payne presenting Innovations in Home Health: ED U Turn Initiative. Sue Payne, of Advanced Home Care presents innovative approaches in working with hospital ED in preventing "preventable hospitalizations" as well as developing a new referral source from the ED to home care agencies.
  • Thursday, June 12, 2012, 2 – 3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Mary McGoldrick presenting Preventing Catheter-related Infections in Patients Receiving Home Infusion Therapy. This presentation provides evidence-based guidelines to prevent catheter-related infections for the home care patient receiving home infusion therapy along with techniques for monitoring the effectiveness of these strategies.
  • Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 2 – 3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Mary McGoldrick presenting Reducing the Risk of Transporting Bed Bugs in Home Care and Hospice. This Webinar will provide an overview of approaches to detecting bed bugs in patient's homes, and discuss strategies that home health and hospice staff can take to prevent the transmission of bed bugs.
  • Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 2 – 3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Rose Madden-Baer of VNAA Member Visiting Nurse Service of New York, presenting Implementation and Evaluation of a Depression Care Model for the Home Bound Elderly. Dr. Madden-Baer's presents her evidenced-based model for reducing depression in home health patients while maintaining a financially viable program.
  • August, 23, 2012, 2-3 p. m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Lisa Gorski, presenting COPD and preventing rehospitalizations. Ms. Gorski shares guidelines and interventions to enable smooth transitions from hospital to home as well as effective clinical approaches to stabilize COPD patients in the home

  • September 25, 2012 2 - 3 p. m. EDT (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. PDT): Mary Narayan presenting the Importance of Physician Communication in preventing hospitalizations.  Ms. Narayan provides concrete approaches and steps to facilitate communication with physicians to prevent "preventable" hospitalizations.

  • October, 2012 – Medication Reconciliation and Management: A presentation for all home health clinicians on ways to achieve accurate reconciliation and management at each visit as well as how to improve quality measures including patient experience.

  • November, 2012 – Patient Education: A presentation on the new approaches for patient education in home care today.

  • December, 2012 – Technology in the Home Setting-A presentation or panel to discuss the use of technology in the home including; telehealth, use of photography especially for wounds, electronic medical records (point of care, patient personal health record and connectivity to other providers), and phones and emails.

Public policy and regulatory educational programs will continue to be offered based on current issues and trends. Possible topics include; Value-Based Purchasing, HIPPA issues with the use of electronic devices, regulatory issues such as understanding the new Medicare survey rules, etc.
