Upcoming Educational Programs

VNAA's education calendar includes up-to-date industry teleconferences/Webinars, which provide convenience for member participation by eliminating the need for travel while still maintaining VNAA's high standard of educational excellence. In addition free educational content for members (see below), VNAA is also offers the VNAA Professional Lecture Series (PLS).

  • Upcoming Programs in the VNAA's Professional Lecture Series (PLS) - $

    VNAA hopes stimulate the exchange of ideas and enrich participants intellectually to improve the quality of home health and hospice care leading to improved outcomes. Registration for each PLS costs $75.00 per conference line for members and $150.00 for nonmembers. Each registered conference line allows for an unlimited number of attendees to call in using the same phone line. If interested, CNE certificates are available for $15/person.     • July 25, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PDT): Rose Madden-Baer: "Implementation and Evaluation of a Depression Care Model for the Homebound Elderly" the prevalence of Depression in homebound elderly is 14%-46%. These patients have an increased for falls and a hastened mortality. Dr. Madden-Baer's groundbreaking study demonstrates how effective treatment can significantly reduce depression, improve clinical care and ensure reimbursement for these patients.
    • August 23, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PDT): Lisa Gorski: "Understanding how to manage the transition from In-Patient to Home for COPD Patients". Ms. Gorski provides up to date clinical management tips and guidelines on how to ensure smooth transitions from hospital to home as well as effective clinical approaches to stabilize COPD patients once they are home to prevent hospitalization of these high-risk patients.
    • September 25, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EDT (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PDT): Mary Narayan: "Effective Communication with Physicians" Research has demonstrated the importance of effectively communicating key clinical changes to physicians. Ms. Narayan presentation provides clinicians with concrete approaches to facilitate communication with physicians to prevent "preventable" hospitalizations.
    • October 11, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EST (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PST): Elizabeth Hogue: "What Home Care and Hospice Marketing Representatives and their Managers need to know about Getting Referrals". Ms. Hogue's presentation will assist marketing, business development staff and their managers to understand the legal requirements, including the anti-kickback and regulatory requirements, so they can legally increase their referrals.
    • October 30, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EST (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PST): Arnie Cisneros, PT: "Home Health Care Plan Production - Use UR for Success" Mr. Cisneros shares his innovative approaches and assists clinicians in their documentation using the OASIS assessment to achieve their clinical goals faster, make their patients safer, and respond to Medicare reforms that affect our agencies. Changes in therapy payment and audit scrutiny plus future care models in the form of ACOs and Post-Acute Bundling will require new approaches to management of therapy in home health.
    • November 15, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EST (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PST): Bonnie Morgan, Co-author of Pain Management-The Resource Guide for Home Health and Hospice Nurses, Hopkins Medical, 2008 will share strategies and insights on Comfortable Dying Measures in End of Life Care. Clinicians will learn current strategies to assist in bringing patients' pain to a Comfortable Level in 48 hours of admission.
    • December 5, 2012, 2  3 p.m. EST (11 a.m.  12 p.m. PST): Beth Hennessey, Paula Suter and Jennifer Pearce present "Health Literacy: The Key to Teaching Patients How to Manage their Health." According to the AMA, up to 78% of patients misinterpret prescription labels and often times this leads to improper self-care and possibly admission to a hospital. This nationally known faculty will provide concrete examples of teaching health literacy to clinicians to ensure patients understand their medical conditions and treatment. They will also share ideas for partnering with hospitals and physician groups to foster collaboration.

    Other educational topics, public policy and regulatory educational programs will continue to be offered based on current issues and trends. Possible topics include; Value-Based Purchasing, HIPPA issues with the use of electronic devices, regulatory issues such as understanding the new Medicare survey rules, etc.

    • July 17 - Hospice Quality Reporting - All Members - Conference Call (FREE)
      VNAA will hold an "All Members" call on July 17 at 2:00 p.m. EDT (11:00 a.m. PDT). On July 6, CMS released its proposed home health payment regulation for calendar year 2013 which also includes other changes to home health and hospice rules. A large part of the rule pertains to home health payment issues. However, there is some information of importance to hospice members. Hospice Quality Reporting will begin in 2013, this call will help explain more about the reporting.
