The VNAA held its 2008 Advocacy Conference on Sept. 17-18, 2008, and energized a robust group of passionate VNA advocates. The two-day conference included a congressional panel presentation, open discussions on healthcare policy, and a superb presentation by political analyst and keynote speaker Eleanor Clift.

The first day of the conference was devoted to gaining a better understanding of how the presidential candidates could impact the current healthcare system and the realities of healthcare reform. A congressional panel, including Eric Rasmussen, Professional Staff, House Ways and Means' Health Subcommittee; Rodney Whitlock, Health Policy Advisor, Senate Finance Committee; and Representative Rangel's Legislative Counsel, John Sheiner, provided insight and a lively Q&A; for all attendees. All panelists agreed that the best way to bring about reform to the healthcare delivery system is for VNAs to meet with their Members of Congress and actively participate in grassroots advocacy. Eleanor Clift, Newsweek columnist, Fox News political analyst and author engaged conference attendees with her detailed and thoughtful analysis of the 2008 presidential campaigns. On the second day of the conference, inspired VNA advocates prepared in groups for their legislative visits and then took to Capitol Hill. Close to 100 visits were made in total by attendees.

Thank you to all who were able to attend the VNAA Advocacy Conference and for your time and commitment to grassroots advocacy. We look forward to seeing you at our 2009 Advocacy Conference!
