As President and CEO of VNA Health Care Inc., Ellen Rothberg manages 800 employees who provide a range of homecare, healthcare and hospice services in 59 towns in central Connecticut and the Waterbury area. Rothberg joined VNA HealthCare in 1998. She often speaks in Hartford, as well as in Washington, D.C., on behalf of VNA HealthCare as well as other nonprofit organizations which provide home healthcare to individuals regardless of economic status or insurance availability. She is committed to educating officials about the benefits of home healthcare, which can save the healthcare system millions of dollars by avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations, and at the same time allow patients to remain in their own homes whenever possible.
Rothberg is the 2008 recipient of the Judith Hriceniak Nursing Award for excellence in nursing leadership given by the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice, and in 2005 was named one of The Hartford Business Journal's Eight Remarkable Women. Rothberg was also received the Hartford Business Journal "2010 Health Care Heroes." award.
Rothberg earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Cornell University, and began her career at Columbia Point Health Center in Boston, working with families in a city housing project. She later obtained a master's degree in public health from Yale University.
Rothberg currently serves on the VNAA's Board of Directors and is active on the Public Policy Committee and chairs the Nominating and Governance Committees. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Association for Home Care and Hospice (CAHCH) where she chairs the Government Relations Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce.
