Barbara Burgess, MSN, RN
Pathways Home Health, Hospice and Private Duty
Barbara Burgess has served as Chief Executive Officer of Pathways Home Health, Hospice & Private Duty since 1999. Burgess joined Pathways in 1993. Before assuming the role of CEO, Burgess was the Director of Home Health Services.
Burgess began her career in community health and spent several years as a nurse in acute care hospitals, including a stint as an Air Force nurse. Prior to her employment with Pathways, she held various management and administrative roles in the home health and hospice industry including positions at Stanford University Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association of Santa Clara County, and the Northern California Visiting Nurse Association.
Burgess has guided Pathways Home Health, Hospice & Private Duty as it cares for patients and families in five San Francisco Bay Area counties. In that, time the agency has created the Pathways KIDS Palliative Care Program, an innovative Integrative Therapies Program, and moved to an electronic health information management system, that now uses remote technology for bedside record keeping.
Her vision for Pathways is to continue the organization's mission of providing high-quality patient and family-centered care in the home with kindness, promoting comfort, independence and dignity.
Burgess currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Visiting Nurses Association of America (VNAA) and is active on the Membership Committee. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Association for Health Services (CASAH) for several years.
Barbara holds a Masters Degree in Community Health Nursing Administration from the University of California, San Francisco.
